How can we tell if others are feeling good or bad, excited or relaxed? Why do some people seem trustworthy right away, others dominant or attractive? For decades, researchers have been investigating how people process faces and come to such judgments. Traditionally, the focus has been on the eye and mouth regions, which have proven to be particularly important for such perceptual impressions. But not just the two regions, surprisingly: Maximilian Broda and Dr. Benjamin de Haas from Justus Liebig University Giessen (JLU) show that the nasal region also allows judgments to be made about the state of mind.
