Dr. David Engel from the Department of Physics received the IHK Science Award for his dissertation "Phase Dynamics in Human Visuomotor Control - Health & Disease".

Dr. David Engel from the Department of Physics at Philipps University received the IHK Science Prize, worth 5,200 euros, for his dissertation "Phase Dynamics in Human Visuomotor Control - Health & Disease". In his work, the physicist deals with the visuomotor processing of the central nervous system. Under certain circumstances, visual movement stimuli are perceived by people as intrinsic movement. As a result, the body tries to compensate for the supposed self-motion with specific body movements. Engel found out that people couple the phase of their body movement to the phase of a periodic visual stimulus and that the coupling of individual body parts is frequency-dependent.
